Yetty's Pizza
If you travel north along the Hudson River you will reach its largest tributary, the Mohawk River. The Mohawk flows towards Albany, nestled between the Catskills and the Adirondack Mountains. Following the Mohawk westward into the Mohawk Highlands, I acquired my own little piece of New York terrain, located twenty minutes outside the town of Herkimer. That said, I've become well acquainted with this little town and its local joints. One of my favorite spots is Yetty's Pizza, a mom and pop pizza/Italian restaurant located near the center of town.
We're not talking five star sophisticated cuisine, but the pizza is definitely not run of the mill. The environment is slightly kitsch but comfortable and the staff is warm and friendly. If you happen to make it for lunch, you can get a small salad and a giant slice of pizza for just under $4. The sauce is my favorite part, zesty and rich, it's baked on top of the cheese. I've heard they have excellent homemade sausage, but I admit I'm not much for sausage on my pizza. The personal pizza (pictured up top) is also excellent. The crust has a nice chew and is fluffier than the standard pie. The menu is absolutely huge so I'm sure there is something for everyone.
